Established in 1957, this Catholic cathedral serves as the seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese. It is a significant religious landmark that hosts community events and has accommodated international humanitarian missions. A memorial calvary on the grounds commemorates the first cross planted in the region by Spanish explorers in 1565.
The building is characterized by its distinctive tent-like Pacific architecture. The interior features intricate wood carvings created by local artist Frank Haikiu. These carved elements incorporate traditional cultural influences into the religious setting.
The building functions as an active place of worship where mass is held regularly. In April 2026, the site was visited by United States Deputy Assistant Secretary Matt Murray.
