It documents the history of the local community and the forced relocation of approximately 60,000 residents during the apartheid era. The site serves as a space for storytelling, education, research, and community restitution.
The museum features a large floor map of the district where former residents have added personal notes and annotations. Permanent exhibitions include Digging Deeper and the Homecoming Centre, which display historical timelines, cultural artifacts, and personal stories. Historical records and art activities are used to preserve the heritage and dignity of the displaced community.
Access to the history of the area is available through self-guided or storyteller-led tours. The institution also provides a gathering space for ex-residents and serves as a venue for public dialogue.
