Founded in the 13th or 14th century, the site contains archaeological layers dating back to the Bronze and Roman ages. It reached its peak development as a royal residence during the 15th century and is a designated National Monument.
The architecture features Late Gothic and Early Renaissance styles, alongside vernacular elements. The defensive complex consists of stone ramparts, bastions, and watchtowers situated on a karst hill. These structures overlook the Pliva waterfall and the surrounding landscape.
