Founded in the 13th century by the Czech king Přemysl Otakar II, this medieval castle originally served to protect the city of Hradiště. Later rebuilt by the Taborites, the structure eventually underwent a significant transformation when it was converted into a brewery. Today, it is recognized as a national cultural monument representing the region's medieval heritage.
The site consists of the only preserved circular battery tower of the original fortification system. This tower stands adjacent to the late Gothic Bechyňská gate. The structure serves as a prominent architectural landmark and is frequently included in guided tours of the historical center.
The tower is managed by the Hussite Museum and is open to the public. It houses a museum exhibition and functions as a lookout point. The interior spaces provide insight into the architectural and historical development of the castle and its surrounding defensive elements.
