The Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo opened in Izumo, Shimane Prefecture, Japan in 2007.

The design, by architect Fumihiko Maki, references the locally-important tatara steel; construction was completed in March 2006.The permanent collection focuses on Izumo-taisha, Izumo Fudoki, and bronze artifacts of the Kofun period - including National Treasures from the Kojindani site - as well as the history of life in Shimane.

Opening hours

Mar - Oct: 9 am - 6 pm
Nov - Feb: 9 am - 5 pm
Last admittance is 30 minutes prior to the closing time.

Closed on third Tue of every month (if the third Tuesday is a national holiday, the museum will close the next day instead.)

Permanent exhibition:
Adults: 610 yen
University Students: 410 yen
Students: 200 yen

For special exhibitions, prices vary with the exhibition.
