Discovered in 1944, this 4th-century BC beehive tomb is a significant example of Hellenistic funerary art. The monument features a narrow passage, an antechamber, and a circular burial chamber. It is associated with the ancient Thracian capital of Seuthopolis and forms part of a larger royal Thracian necropolis.
The interior is renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved Hellenistic-period murals, which are considered a masterpiece of the Thracian creative spirit. These wall paintings depict Thracian burial rituals, a funeral feast, a Thracian couple, and scenes of fighting warriors. These frescoes provide unique insights into the culture and artistic mastery of the Thracian people during the late 4th century BC.
A full-scale replica of the original tomb is available for entry to ensure the long-term preservation of the ancient artwork. The site has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979.
