The waterfall is situated on the Victoria Nile within a national park. The river is forced through a narrow 7-meter-wide rock gap, creating a powerful surge that plunges 43 meters into the depths below. This main fall is the primary feature of a larger three-waterfall cascade that has a total drop of 120 meters.
Historically, the site is significant for being visited by the explorers Samuel and Florence Baker in 1864 during their expedition. It is located approximately 32 kilometers east of Lake Albert.
