Batad Rice Terraces

These ancient rice terraces are a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for their unique amphitheater-like design. Carved into the hillsides over 2,000 years ago by the indigenous Ifugao ethnic group, the site demonstrates advanced historical engineering and a deep harmony with the natural environment. The landscape consists of one of five distinct clusters recognized for their historical and scenic value.

The terrain is characterized by steep, semi-circular stone and mud walls that follow the mountain contours. Agricultural practices continue here, reflecting traditional farming lifestyles that have persisted for millennia. A traditional village is situated within the area, and trails lead to the nearby Tappiya Falls.

Movement through the terraces involves traversing challenging terrain that requires significant physical effort. The site is open to the public for hiking and sightseeing, though the paths across the stone walls and mountain ridges are physically demanding.
