셀리미예 모스크

Originally constructed in the 13th century during the Frankish period as the Cathedral of Saint Sophia, this structure is the oldest and largest surviving Gothic church in Cyprus. It served as the coronation site for the kings of the island before being converted into a mosque following the Ottoman conquest in 1571.

The building is a significant example of medieval religious architecture, featuring prominent Gothic elements. It currently functions as a primary place of worship, with a total capacity to accommodate 2,500 people.

The site reflects a complex history of religious transformation, transitioning from a Catholic cathedral to a Muslim mosque. It remains one of the most prominent historical landmarks on the island, representing both the medieval and Ottoman eras.
