The Château de Fénelon is a well-preserved medieval fortress with origins dating to the 12th century. Significant architectural modifications occurred during the 14th, 16th, and 17th centuries, resulting in a complex that includes a 14th-century tower and residential wings from the late 15th and 16th centuries. Historically, the site served as a strategic stronghold and is notable as the birthplace of the writer and archbishop François de Salignac de La Mothe-Fénelon. It holds designations as a National Monument and a "Maison des Illustres."
The interior contains furnished living quarters, Fénelon's bedroom, a chapel, and an armory with pieces from the 15th to 18th centuries. An exhibition is dedicated to the life and literary heritage of Fénelon. The property is privately owned but open to the public, with self-guided tours using explanatory panels typically lasting about 1.5 hours. The castle has also served as a filming location for various productions, including the 1998 film Ever After.
