This bronze monument was created by the sculptor Jan Štursa and unveiled in 1924 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Bedřich Smetana, a famous Czech composer born in the town. The architectural design of the memorial was provided by the architect Pavel Janák.

The statue is officially recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site. It is oriented towards the nearby chateau.
