Originally commissioned in 1190, this neoclassical palace has served as the seat of municipal power for over eight centuries. The current facade was completed in 1760 by architect Guillaume Cammas and is characterized by its use of pink bricks. Designated as a monument historique in 1840, the building contains monumental interior spaces such as the Salle des Illustres and the Cour Henri IV, which are decorated with art and historical references.
The building houses both the city hall and the Opéra national du Capitole. This national opera house hosts a variety of performances, including opera, ballet, concerts, and recitals. Beyond theatrical productions, the venue is used for cultural events, conferences, and open rehearsals. Some interior galleries and halls date back as far as the 16th century.
The site is open to the public, allowing for the exploration of its grand halls and courtyards. The facade is notably illuminated during the morning hours.
