Originally constructed between 1044 and 1066 under Prince Vseslav the Seer, this site stands as the oldest stone building in Belarus. Following its destruction in 1705, the structure was rebuilt in 1740 by architect Johann Christoph Glaubitz in the Vilna Baroque style. It represents a significant example of the Architectural school of Polock and is designated as a Cultural Heritage Site.

The interior functions as a Museum of Architecture, showcasing ancient masonry, historical exhibitions, and original frescoes. It also contains a burial chamber and forms part of the State Museum-Preserve. The building is open to the public, offering insight into its transformation from a medieval monument to a Baroque landmark.

In addition to its role as a museum, the cathedral serves as a concert hall for chamber and organ music, featuring a unique organ and exceptional acoustics. While primarily a cultural and historical site, it continues to host occasional Orthodox religious services.
