Founded in 1975, this specialized institution preserves a collection of more than 5,000 works, including puppets, marionettes, and automatons sourced from across the globe. The facility spans approximately 900 square meters and focuses on the preservation and promotion of both traditional and contemporary figure theater. The museum is open to the public for viewing its permanent collections and temporary exhibitions.
A significant portion of the collection is dedicated to Sicilian pupi, central to the Opera dei pupi theatrical tradition which is recognized by UNESCO. The museum holdings also include stage machines and related artifacts from various international cultures. It functions as a "museum of performance," actively engaging in research and the documentation of popular traditions.
The museum hosts regular theatrical activities, including live puppet shows, exhibitions, and workshops. It is the venue for the annual Morgana Festival, an event fostering international exchange and contemporary artistic collaborations. The institution was established by Antonio Pasqualino and remains dedicated to the art of puppetry in its diverse forms.
