The building is the oldest theatre venue in Central Europe, with historical roots reaching back to 1640 and an official opening in 1733. It gained significant historical recognition for hosting a performance by a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 1767. Currently, it serves as one of the three stages operated by the National Theatre Brno.
The structure features Baroque architecture combined with modern elements from a 2005 reconstruction designed by architect Miroslav Melena. Notable interior spaces include the Mozart Hall and an atrium covered by a transparent roof. The venue maintains a blend of original historical features and updated technical equipment.
The theatre hosts a variety of productions, including progressive drama performances. To accommodate international audiences, programs often include English and German subtitles. The facility is wheelchair accessible and recognized as a cultural heritage site.
