This 400-meter-long mountain lake was created following the 1911 Kebin earthquake, which resulted in a natural dam. It is characterized by its bluish-green water and a unique collection of submerged Picea schrenkiana trees. These spruce trees remain standing vertically in the water, with their dry tops rising above the surface while the underwater branches are preserved by the cold temperatures.
Situated within the Kolsay Lakes National Park in the Zailiyskiy Alatau range, the lake is a key point on the Alatau Amanaty Trail. It is part of a protected nature reserve and a national project focused on ecological tourism development. The area is accessible for hiking and sightseeing.
The clarity of the water allows for diving and winter ice diving to view the underwater forest structures. Angling is also a recognized activity at the lake during the winter months.
