Completed in 1956, this Evangelical-Lutheran cathedral was designed by architects Gudolf Blakstad and Herman Munthe-Kaas in a modernist functionalist style. The structure replaced a previous church destroyed during the war and is built primarily of concrete in a basilica style. A prominent feature is the free-standing 36-meter bell tower, which also functions as a clock tower.
The interior is defined by significant glass art, including a 12-meter high stained-glass window. The building houses a large organ system and has a maximum capacity of 850 people. It serves as the main church for the Sør-Hålogaland diocese and the seat of its bishop.
As an active place of worship and a designated Cultural Heritage Site, the cathedral is open for quiet reflection and historical exploration. Regular church services, concerts, and social activities take place here. The adjacent parish center provides facilities for events and gatherings.
