Built in 1995 on the ruins of Australia's first government house, this museum showcases the history of Sydney as well as its present through interactive exhibitions. Listen to the stories of people and events that have formed the city as we know it today. You can also join a free tour that will provide you with detailed information on present exhibits.
The museum's forecourt is adorned with an intriguing installation called Edge of the Trees. These wooden pillars include displays of various organic materials, such as hair and bones, and are supposed to represent the 29 Aboriginal clans that used to live in the area.
The museum is easily accessible by bus, train or ferry if you exit at the Circular Quay.
