This tiny village with only 120 inhabitants is the place where many travellers stop to refresh themselves or sleep during their long trips. It's the only place within many kilometres which offers services, a gas station, hotel, bank, post office and a supermarket.
There is a statue of two monks called "the Burden of History". It is believed that this place was initially inhabited by Irish monks. The village survived one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in the history of our Earth in 1783.
The whole village is so quaint and peaceful, it makes you want to move there and live close to the nature, uninterrupted by the rest of the world. Many people from Reykjavik come here for the weekend to rest. The road is not one of the best, so make sure to have a car that can withstand difficult terrain.
