The church is a Neo-Gothic and eclectic structure built between 1864 and 1869, designed by the architect Johann Daniel Felsko. It is constructed of stone and brick with a distinctive concrete facade and a prominent 63-meter tower. The site has a long history, with a church first mentioned here in the 15th century, though the building has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries.
This place of worship is notable for its position on a specially designated octagonal square. As a Cultural Heritage Site, it represents one of the first churches built in such a designated urban space.
The building serves the Lutheran Gertrude congregation and hosts regular religious services, events, and educational programs such as the Alfa course. It remains an active spiritual center focused on community service.
