The museum is located in the historic building where Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, was born in 1856. Designated as a cultural monument in 2005, the house opened as a museum on May 27, 2006. It preserves the legacy of the renowned psychoanalyst and documents the history of the house itself.
The primary exhibition, titled House of Dreams (Dům snů), offers an interactive experience that interweaves history, psychology, and Freud's personal narrative. It explores his childhood and the development of his psychological theories. The display includes an artistic representation of psychoanalytic thought and a permanent installation of Freud's sofa.
The museum serves as a venue for cultural events, including the Freud Fest. The building, identified as house number 117, focuses on the life and work of its most famous former resident.
