Built between 1615 and 1618 by the Ottoman Grand Vizier Öküz Mehmed Pasha, this structure was originally designed as a fortress and customs house. Its primary historical functions included supporting trade and providing storage for goods.
The architecture resembles a citadel, constructed with thick stone walls and a defensive walkway. A large inner courtyard forms the center of the complex. Following a major renovation, the site was converted into a hotel in 1968.
The building currently operates as the Club Caravanserail hotel, providing accommodation and dining facilities. The site also houses a bazaar, maintaining its historical connection to commerce and trade.
