This Gothic brick pseudobasilica was founded in 1307 by Queen Elizabeth Richeza. With a history spanning over seven centuries, the structure is a prominent example of Gothic architecture characterized by its twin towers and a royal entrance. It serves as the principal church of the Hradec Králové diocese and the seat of the parish-deanery.
The interior houses several significant historical artifacts, including a 15th-century triptych and the oldest tin baptismal font in the Czech Republic. The cathedral is also home to a collection of historical bells and valuable furnishings that reflect its long religious and cultural importance.
A major feature of the cathedral is its 19th-century organ, originally constructed by Karel Schiffner and later reconstructed by Miroslav Heger. This instrument remains a key musical and liturgical element within the church. The site is a designated Cultural Heritage Site and continues to host active parish activities.
