The museum, established in 2011, is dedicated to the life and work of the illustrator Zdeněk Burian, who gained international recognition for his scientific reconstructions of prehistoric animals and early humans. The collection is housed in a historic building and consists of original artworks and reproductions that depict ancient landscapes, mammoth hunters, and scenes from adventure literature.
The permanent exhibition is open to the public and is supplemented by seasonal thematic exhibitions held every year. These temporary displays highlight specific parts of the artist's legacy, providing a rotating look at various illustrations and paintings.
