Constructed between 1870 and 1873, this Neo-Renaissance building was designed by architect Theophil von Hansen. Originally established as a cultural and social center for the Czech national minority, it now serves as the seat of the Brno Philharmonic. The building is a designated Cultural Heritage Site and is notable for its historical significance, including the public announcement of the formation of Czechoslovakia from its balcony on October 29, 1918.
The venue hosts a variety of cultural events, including classical concerts, jazz performances, conferences, and exhibitions. It has a significant musical history, having hosted the premieres of works by the composer Leoš Janáček. The interior was adapted in the late 20th century to accommodate its current role as a professional concert hall while preserving its architectural character.
