Founded in 659 AD by the Tibetan king Songtsen Gampo, this site is one of the oldest and most sacred Buddhist temples in the country. It was originally constructed as part of a series of 108 temples built across the Himalayan region to subdue a giant demoness. The complex serves as a significant historical monument and a key destination for Himalayan Buddhist history.
The architecture consists of two pagoda-style temples. The first dates back to the 7th century, while a second, identical copy was constructed in 1968. The interiors are richly decorated, housing ancient Bodhisattva statues, spiritual treasures, and figures of the Buddha and the God of Compassion.
The grounds feature ancient prayer wheels and intricate wall paintings. A notable feature of the site is the presence of two orange trees that bear fruit throughout the year.
