This cobblestone square occupies the site of a former Roman forum and served as a medieval marketplace and fairground. During the 19th century, the area functioned as a stagecoach stop. Its historical significance is rooted in its long-standing role as a commercial and social center.
The square is characterized by a unique hourglass shape and features an 18th-century marble fountain. To the north, the space is bordered by the Palais de Justice, while the southern side consists of a row of harmonious buildings. The Lutheran church is also located within the square's perimeter.
Currently, the area serves as a commercial hub containing upscale shops, restaurants, and cafes. It is situated in close proximity to St. Pierre Cathedral, the largest church in the city. The square remains a central meeting point and is open to the public.
