Edinburgh, officieel City of Edinburgh, is sinds 1437 de hoofdstad van Schotland. De stad wordt door inwoners soms liefkozend Auld Reekie genoemd.
Het raadsgebied, met de officiële titel van city, ligt aan de oostkust, aan de zuidzijde van de Firth of Forth, en is de zetel van het Schots Parlement, dat in 1999 opnieuw is ingesteld. De stad is de op een na grootste stad van Schotland, na Glasgow.
