Built around 1321 by King Stefan Milutin, this Serbian Orthodox monastery is a primary example of Serbo-Byzantine architecture. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Medieval Monuments in Kosovo" listing. The structure serves as a significant spiritual, cultural, and historical center.
The interior is renowned for its well-preserved medieval frescoes, which are considered valuable specimens of 14th-century religious art. These paintings cover much of the internal surfaces, illustrating the artistic traditions of the period.
The site continues to function as an active convent today. It remains open as a place of worship while preserved as a major monument of cultural heritage.
