Constructed between 1857 and 1874 under the reign of Maximilian II of Bavaria, the building features a combination of neo-Gothic and Renaissance Revival architectural styles. Originally established as a foundation to support talented students, it now serves as the seat of the Bavarian State Parliament since 1949. The building also hosts the Maximilianeum Foundation, continuing its educational mission alongside its governmental function. Designed by Friedrich Bürklein, with contributions from Gottfried Semper and Karl Kergl, the palatial structure stands as a significant regional heritage monument and exemplifies historic architecture integrated with political and educational roles. It is wheelchair accessible and recognized as an important symbol of Bavarian history and governance.
