Plac Prešerena

The square is a central pedestrian hub that connects the medieval city core with modern architectural landmarks. It features a blend of Art Nouveau and modern architecture, with contributions from architects such as Jože Plečnik, who designed the iconic Triple Bridge (Tromostovje), Maks Fabiani, and Edvard Ravnikar. A prominent feature is the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, a historic landmark that anchors the site.

At the heart of the area stands the France Prešeren Monument, unveiled in 1905. Dedicated to the national Romantic poet France Prešeren, the monument includes artistic sculptures created by Ivan Zajc and architectural elements by Maks Fabiani. Unlike many central squares that feature military figures, this space is adorned with a tribute to a literary figure. The square is designated as a Cultural Heritage Site.

As a major gathering point, the square frequently hosts cultural events, festivals, concerts, and political gatherings. It serves as a starting point for architectural walks and city tours. The area is entirely pedestrianized and wheelchair accessible, functioning as a primary meeting place and a crossroads for several key streets in the historic center.
