Completed in 1909 after construction began in 1908, this historic place of worship is one of the oldest mosques in the area. It was designed by architect H. L. Saibo Lebbe in a South Indian style. Beyond its religious function, the building served as a significant visual landmark for sailors navigating toward the ports.
The structure is renowned for its unique Indo-Saracenic architectural style, which incorporates a hybrid of Indo-Islamic, Gothic revival, and Neo-classical influences. The most striking feature is the bold red-and-white candy-striped pattern covering the façade and its various minarets.
The site is open to the public and serves as a popular location for sightseeing. It remains a functioning mosque while also serving as a visually distinct icon of local heritage.
