Jade Market

Local name油麻地玉器小販市場 Yau Ma Tei Jade Market
LocationHong Kong, China

If you feel a bit down on your luck, take a stop at this market located on the corner of Canton Road and Jordan Road. Inside, you can purchase a jade amulet for good fortune or plenty of other trinkets, mostly made out of jade, but also out of pearls, malachite, or many other precious stones.

The Yau Ma Jade Market is the largest market of its kind, with several hundred stalls offering mostly jewellery, pendants, small statues and other decorative items. Jade, the stone that is mainly on sale here, is considered auspicious by the Chinese, bringing good health, fortune, and prosperity to its owners.

You can reach the market easily if you take the Hong Kong train and exit at the MTR Yau Ma Tei Station. The market is within walking distance from there. There are two entrances to the market, one at Kansu Street and one at Battery Street.

When you pick your jade souvenir at the market, do not forget to bargain about the price. Also, be aware that while not all jade available here must necessarily be a fake, there may be some pieces of lower quality among the goods.
