Jama Masjid

Local nameJama Masjid
LocationAgra, India

Located right opposite the Agra Fort, the Jama Masjid, which means "the Friday Mosque", is a splendid sight not to be missed. Made out of the Mughal trademark red sandstone and marble, the mosque is one of the largest of India.

Like many other magnificent buildings in Agra, the Friday Mosque is also a part of the city's 17th century Mughal heritage. It was built at the orders of the emperor Shah Jahan in 1648 as a gift to his daughter, Jahanara Begum.
