Founded in 1140, this religious complex features a Romanesque basilica constructed between 1143 and 1164. Known as the 'Dom im Gebirge' (Cathedral in the Mountains), the site combines historic architecture with baroque decorations and has served as a significant center for liturgical research.
The complex houses the Habsburger-Mausoleum, which served as the burial place for the Inner Austrian line of the Habsburgs. Among its religious artifacts is the Seckauer Gnadenbild, a significant devotional image housed within the abbey church.
Contemporary artistic elements are integrated into the historic structure, most notably the 'Seckauer Apokalypse' frescoes by Herbert Boeckl located in the Engelkapelle. The site is open to the public and includes museum facilities.
