The São Nicolau Waterfall is a natural landmark where the water drops approximately 30 meters over a basalt escarpment. It serves as the upper of two waterfalls situated along the Rio Manuel Jorge. The surrounding environment consists of dense highland forest and lush vegetation, which contributes to the refreshing coolness of the water.
A bridge is located at the base of the waterfall, which is accessible via a branch road off the EN1. Situated at an elevation of about 930 meters, the falls are a prominent feature of the central highlands.
