The Baluarte da Puana is one of the corner bastions of the Fortaleza de São José da Amura, an 18th-century Portuguese fortress situated in the old quarter. This defensive structure is a key component of the larger Amura Fortress complex.
The grounds contain the mausoleum of Amílcar Cabral. Because the site remains in active use by the military, access is restricted.
