The Hisar Fortress is an ancient citadel with a history spanning approximately 3,000 years. It stands as the remnants of the ancient city of Shumon and functions as an open-air museum. The site preserves significant examples of historical architecture, most notably the remaining gate and towers.
Historically, the fortress served as a strategic seat of power in the region. It was the residence of the Bukhara ruler and the Hisar Bek (governor). The site played a central role in the medieval history of the area and was once a stop along the Silk Road.
The complex is designated as the Hisar historical-cultural reserve. It is open to the public, allowing for the observation of its archaeological remains and architectural landmarks.
