The site consists of a heavily fortified castle complex with origins dating back to the 14th century, though its current form largely reflects late 15th-century Gothic architecture. Located on the summit of a volcanic hill, the fortress serves as a significant regional landmark. The complex is designated as a national cultural monument and is managed by the National Heritage Institute.
The castle is open to the public and includes a palace, a tower, and a chapel. Archaeological investigations and various restorations have shaped the current state of the site. Available tour routes encompass a self-guided exploration of the castle palace as well as guided tours that focus on the work of architect Dušan Jurkovič.
Additional features include an exposition dedicated to the work of Dušan Jurkovič. The site functions as both a historical museum and a hillfort, illustrating the architectural development and significance of the fortification over several centuries.
