The memorial complex, designed by architect Arthur Tarkhanyan, consists of a 44-meter granite stele symbolizing the rebirth of the Armenian people and a circular sanctuary. This sanctuary is composed of twelve tilted basalt slabs that surround an eternal flame, often referred to as the Temple of Eternity. A memorial wall also stands on the site, dedicated to those who provided assistance to survivors during the genocide.
Officially opened on November 29, 1968, the site serves as a national monument and a center for historical research. It includes a museum and institute that house exhibitions detailing the events of 1915. The collections feature survivor testimonies, historical documents, and educational materials that provide historical context on the genocide.
The complex is a significant site for remembrance and education, functioning as both a monument and a museum. The grounds are open to the public and provide a somber space for reflection.
