Ареналь (вулкан)

This andesitic stratovolcano rises to an elevation of 1,633 meters. Historically recognized for a significant eruptive period that began in 1968, it was one of the most active volcanoes globally until 2010. The conical peak serves as a central landmark within a national park and is situated near the shores of Lake Arenal.

The landscape consists of a mix of lava fields from previous eruptions and lush secondary forests. A network of trails exists for the exploration of these diverse ecosystems and ancient lava flows. The region is also characterized by significant geothermal activity, which heats numerous natural hot springs.

The site is accessible for hiking and nature observation. Trails traverse varied terrain, including volcanic debris and rainforest environments. Information regarding geological history and local traditions is provided through guided tours available on-site.
