Gate of the Mother of God

This late Gothic city gate dates back to the 13th century and stands as the last remaining of the five original gates belonging to the historical fortification system. As a designated Cultural Heritage Site, the tower is a prominent example of medieval defensive architecture.

The structure currently serves as a lookout tower and contains exhibitions dedicated to the history of the city and its defensive walls. It also houses the Jihlava Astronomical Society, which organizes public observations of the night sky from the premises.

Revitalization plans for the monument include the restoration of its original facade. A modern interactive exhibition focusing on the history of the fortifications is also being prepared for the interior spaces.
