The Holy Trinity Cathedral, commonly referred to as Sameba, is the main cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church and one of the largest religious buildings in the world. Constructed between 1996 and 2004, the cathedral stands as a monumental symbol of religious and national revival. The architectural design, credited to the architect Archil Mindiashvili, represents a synthesis of traditional Georgian styles and features a prominent gilded dome.
The extensive complex includes the residence of the Patriarch and various theological facilities. The interior of the cathedral houses significant religious relics and has a maximum capacity of 10,000 people. Its immense size makes the structure visible from great distances.
The grounds are open for both daytime and evening visits. The cathedral and its surrounding gardens are well-lit at night, making it a prominent landmark after sunset.
