Форт Санта-Крус

Built by the Spanish between 1577 and 1604, this historic fortification is situated on the crest of Mount Murdjadjo (also known as the Aïdour mountain). It stands at an elevation exceeding 375 meters and represents a significant period of Spanish colonial influence in the region, while also bearing witness to Ottoman heritage.

The structure is composed of history-steeped stones and was originally designed as a strategic military outpost. Its elevated position provides commanding panoramic views of the city and the Mediterranean Sea. The site was officially classified as a cultural heritage landmark on October 6, 1950.

Located in close proximity to the notable Santa Cruz Chapel, the fort is a prominent feature of the landscape. The fortress remains a testament to the complex military and architectural history of the area.
