The Château de Tarde, also known as the Manoir de Tarde, is a historic manor house that formed part of a medieval fortified settlement known as a castrum. The site has historical roots extending back to Roman times and played a significant role in trade and regional conflicts during the Middle Ages. It is named after the Tarde family, which included a notable local historian and had historical associations with the scientist Galileo.
This national monument is characterized by its distinctive round tower and its position dominating the surrounding landscape. As a former residence of the gentry, the manor is situated on a limestone cliff. It is accessible through a network of narrow, stepped streets in an area known for its subtropical microclimate.
The remains of the fort and the bishop's castle are located in the vicinity. The structure stands as a remnant of the period when the settlement was a significant medieval site. The manor and the surrounding vestiges of the fort are available for exploration.
