This 17th-century settlement was a significant plantation community and served as a central hub for Jewish life in the colony. It stands as one of the earliest and most important locations for Sephardic Jews in the New World.
The site contains the archaeological remains of the Beracha ve Shalom Synagogue and the foundations of various colonial-era houses. Two historic cemeteries are also preserved within the grounds, providing physical evidence of the settlement and its history involving both Sephardic Jews and enslaved people.
Recognized for its historical and cultural value, the area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023. It remains a significant national monument and archaeological site.
