Built in 1557, this basilica is divided into two parts - the upper and the lower chapel.
The upper chapel is constructed in Gothic style, contains stained glass windows and frescoes depicting the journey of the most notable relic in the basilica - the relic of Precious Blood (a vial, which is said to contain Christ's blood). People come here and pray nearby.
The lower chapel is the only chapel in West-Flanders constructed in Romanesque style. You can observe a wooden sculpture of Madonna and Child, and the statues that are carried annually during the procession of the Holy Blood - Jesus on the Cold Stone and the Pieta. These are also displayed in the Basilica Museum.
The closest bus stop is Brugge Wollestraat, lines 88 and 91. Although the admission to the basilica is free, you are asked to give a small donation to see the relic of Precious Blood.
