ส่วนที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของสวนมีอายุย้อนไปถึงศตวรรษที่ 13 เมื่อมันเป็นของตระกูลมอสซี่ ต่อมาได้มีการขยายและเพิ่มพิสดารบันไดและรูปปั้น สวนแห่งนี้ตั้งชื่อตาม Stefano Bardini พ่อค้าศิลปะชาวอิตาลีซึ่งซื้อที่ดินในศตวรรษที่ 20
