Built between 1620 and 1630 by architect Jacques Bougier, this classical Baroque castle has remained in the same family, the Huraults (the Marquises of Vibraye), for more than 600 years. It is a recognized monument historique noted for its rigorous architectural style and its status as one of the most visited private estates in the region.
The interior contains significant 17th-century decorations, including paintings by Jean Monier, alongside an extensive collection of historical furniture and tapestries. The estate encompasses six distinct gardens and maintains a traditional pack of hunting hounds.
The structure served as the primary inspiration for Hergé's fictional Château de Moulinsart in The Adventures of Tintin. A permanent, interactive exhibition titled Les Secrets de Moulinsart is located on the grounds, focusing on the world of Tintin and Milou.
