This significant holy site is revered as the burial place of the biblical matriarch Rachel, the wife of Jacob. Held in high esteem by Jews, Christians, and Muslims, the location has served as a pilgrimage destination for centuries. The structure features architecture dating from the Ottoman period, though it is currently housed within a fortified building. The site was designated as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site in 2015.
The site functions as a religious center for prayer, Torah study, and the celebration of life-cycle events. Approximately one million people arrive annually to the site, which is managed with the support of the organization Keren Kever Rachel. This organization facilitates ongoing prayer services and the submission of prayer petitions for Jews worldwide.
